Tips on Buying Motorcycle Insurance
If you’ve recently bought yourself a new motorcycle, you may be wondering whether or not you should purchase motorcycle insurance. More often than not, it’s required for licensed drivers to at least have liability coverage for their bikes, although this can vary from state to state. If you’ve purchased your model in one of the many states that do require motorcycle insurance, you’ll want to take a look at our helpful guide below!
Buying Motorcycle Insurance
If you’ve never dealt with motorcycle insurance before, it’s very similar to buying car insurance. In fact, many of the same companies that provide car insurance also offer motorcycle insurance. If you already have a policy with an insurance company (whether it’s for your home, car, or even a boat) you may have the option to bundle your two policies for an added discount.
Similar to car insurance, you’ll want to call around and grab quotes from some of your preferred agencies to see which company is offering the best deal. You’ll also need to provide the same information you would for car insurance; including driver's license, vehicle VIN, and plate numbers.
Coverage
If you’re pretty familiar with buying car insurance, you may notice that motorcycle insurance is a bit more expensive than you’re used to. Motorcycle accidents are more common statistically, causing insurance companies to raise their rates. Thankfully, if you have a good driving record, or an older less expensive model, you can lower your interest rates. However, because motorcycles are more likely to crash or be stolen, we advise buying extra coverage to protect you in case of bodily harm or theft.
