When Should You Replace Your Motorcycle’s Tires?

Changing out your motorcycle’s tires is just as important as changing out your engine oil. Wait too long, and you’ll end up destroying your model’s most sensitive part, and even risk completely ruing the bike altogether. When to Replace Your Tires

Knowing when to replace your tires is an important part of both motorcycle maintenance and motorcycle safety. Ride around on a ruined set of wheels and you’re very likely to either damage your vehicle or even wind up in an accident. To ensure this doesn’t happen, you'll want to be sure to replace your tires before they become too worn out. If you notice the tread on your current set has worn down below 2 centimeters, is over 10 years old, or has recently been patched, you’ll want to get them changed out ASAP. 

Signs to Look For 

To keep your tires from wearing out too early, you’ll want to try and inspect them regularly, as well as check their PSI. Under or overfilled tires will often result in damaged wheels, and may cause you to have to replace your current set much sooner than you would have liked. When examining your wheels, pay very close attention to the tread and shape of your tires. If you notice the rubber or shape of the tire is disfigured, or you’re able to move the tire or see the bead, it’s a sign that your tires are going to need changing sooner rather than later. While you’re completing your inspection, you’ll also want to be sure to check your tread to be sure it’s wearing down evenly and still has enough grip.
