When To Replace Your Motorcycle Parts
Knowing exactly when to replace a motorcycle’s parts can be a tough guessing game. Replace them too early and you’ve wasted quite a bit of time and money changing a part that was still in good condition. Replace them too late and you run the risk of seriously damaging other components on your motorcycle. For tips on when to replace some of your motorcycle’s most sensitive parts, be sure to read our article below.
Tires
On average, a motorcycle tire will last for a minimum of five years before it needs to be replaced. However, tire damage and wear are common issues, and you want to keep a close eye on your wheels to ensure you’re replacing them at the right time. Every month or so, be sure to check your tire’s air pressure, examine the walls for signs of cracks, and inspect the tread for signs of extreme or uneven wear. If you notice your tread has worn down below two millimeters, you’ll want to have them replaced immediately.
Spark Plugs
Without spark plugs, you and your motorcycle will be getting nowhere fast. Thankfully, spark plugs are long-lasting little components, and only need to be replaced every 10,000 miles or so. However, a damaged spark plug is a dangerous one, and we advise examining yours carefully for eroded wires or large gaps that indicate damage. If you do see a damaged spark plug, we advise removing it immediately to avoid engine failure or an electrical fire.
